Candy / Lollies / Sweets
Sugar is a food that makes you age faster because it prevents your body burning fat, and storing it instead. Suar is top of the list because so many of us consume more of it than is healthy. Even artificial sweeteners are not a healthy choice because they tend to fuel our cravings for sweets that we’ll sneak in with other foods. When people consume lots of sugar, the cells can’t synthesize all of it and the excess sugar molecules form bonds with proteins. This can affect your skin’s collagen, which is a protein that maintains youthful skin elasticity.
Sugar also is bad for the teeth, causing both discoloration and tooth decay. Even if you don’t add sugar to your food and drink, all kinds of food have sugar as a major ingredient. Besides tooth decay, sugar is a major cause of obesity and inflammation.
One of the alarming effects of sugar is that it can fuel cancer cells. It does so mainly by causing excess body fat. As a result, this is linked to a greater risk of many types of cancer. The types of cancers you are at risk of can include colorectal endometrial, and breast cancer, according to the American Institute for Cancer Research.
Most of us have heard that alcohol is bad for your liver. Your liver helps the body filter and expel toxins that affect your skin. When more toxins build up in your liver than it can process, your skin appears aged, with various issues, like sallowness, wrinkles and even acne.
Alcohol may also disturb your sleep. Inadequate sleep can cause wrinkling and reduced skin elasticity.
As long as you moderate your drinking you should be okay. But remember alcohol is dehydrating and too much of it will likely cause free radical damage, especially if your drinks have a high sugar content. If you drink alcohol, be sure to take vitamin A, which helps the body with cell renewal.
Trans Fats and Hydrogenated Fat
Hydrogenated and Trans fats are so bad for you that the government has stepped in on your behalf. Trans fats are not only foods that make you age faster, but they are straight up bad for you. According to the US National Library of Medicine, there’s some evidence for the potential of trans fats to bring on the development of cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease.
Trans fats, which could be lurking in margarine, doughnuts, crackers, cookies, etc., are harmful for the heart, and can also cause your skin to age.
Hydrogenated fat is bad for you, too. It’s often found in peanut butter and other baked foods. Read the ingredients and buy foods without it.
High Glycemic Index Foods Make You Age Faster
Comfort foods like pasta and bread made with refined white flour rank high on the glycemic index. This means they will cause a rapid spike of sugar in the blood. Refined carbs cause your body to have an excess of energy for a short period of time, often without the accompanying nutrients. This will switch on your insulin response, and cause much less fat to be burned. Excess fat in the body can cause many problems. It has been linked to accelerating aging of your skin, and can also cause rosacea and acne.
Charred or Processed Meat
Animal proteins in meat that char while cooking contains pro-inflammatory hydrocarbons. These hydrocarbons can damage the collagen of your skin to be damaged. Remember to clean the grill when you’re finished to remove bits of charred meat. Badly burned or carbonized meats have also been linked to cancer – so if it’s burned, bin it.
Processed meats have been linked to cancer. Avoid or reduce the amount of these types of meat in your diet:
- Vienna sausages and other sausages
- Hot dogs
- Beef jerky
- Deli meats, including roast beef, ham, and turkey
These meats often have a high amount of preservatives like sulfites. These preservatives and the salt used in processing can trigger skin inflammation, adding to the appearance of aging.
Coffee, tea, white wine, lemonade, orange juice, and grapefruit juice are all delicious. You shouldn’t have to cut them out altogether but know that they aren’t good for your teeth. Their acidic action can damage your teeth’s enamel.
People who drink a lot of tea may notice they have stained teeth, which is from tea’s high tannin content. Fortunately the Journal of Dental Hygiene reports that adding milk to your tea instead of lemon provides the protein casein, which can reduce tea’s effect of tooth stains.
To minimize the etching of your teeth and gums, wait at least an hour before brushing. Cold acidic beverages should be drunk with a straw to bypass your teeth as much as possible. Try to remember to sip water after drinking juice or white wine.

Americans love their fast food. According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), as many as 36% of adults consume fast food each day. Would you continue eating them so much if you knew they are foods that make you age faster, are are very likely to give you health problems?
Fast foods, like french fries and chicken, are often fried–adding to the high calorie content. A typical fast food meal can contain well over 1,000 calories. Fast foods often contain excessive salt and sugar, and are anything but healthy.
Keep Young Naturally
Time eventually shows itself on all of us. Even taking steps for younger-looking skin can’t quite hide our age. Those who turn to plastic surgery to help turn back the clock on their faces can end up looking bizarre and strange, since procedures have outcomes inconsistent with their age, like overly plump lips (resulting in “trout face” or overly tight skin which ends up looking pinched and painful).
There are other things short of plastic surgery and diet that you can incorporate in your day’s routine to mitigate aging.
